Off the Bookshelf #2 – An actual bookshelf?

It just so happens that today, while I was thinking about what to write for this article, I ended up installing a new bookshelf in my bedroom. After some time poring over the bookshelf, sorting books, plus some extra odds-and-ends, I decided hey, why not just talk about my bookshelf itself! Or, at least, the contents contained on it.

I’m somewhat OCD about some things, so i’ve split the bookshelf into a few different sections, namely: Light Novels, Manga, RPG books, regular books, and video games (because why not display my collection proudly?). For this article though, we’ll just talk about the first one.

First up, my LN collection!

It’s not much, but i’m still proud!

Honestly, I don’t have very many. I’d like to have more, but it takes some time (and money) to assemble a decent collection. Not only that, but most titles, I tend to read on my Kindle, because it’s just cheaper and easier that way. Only series that i really like will I spend the extra money and effort to order a physical copy.

As you can probably see, i’ve got quite a few volumes of The Rising of the Shield Hero. This is one of the first LN series I actually read, and I followed the webnovel for several months as it finished releasing. I absolutely love this series, and not just for the sentimental value. I’ve got 9 volumes currently, but i’ve got a few more on pre-order as well. Going forward, we’ve got several volumes of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, which is probably my favorite light novel series at the moment. The raw emotion and interesting characters make it a really interesting and unique story, and I am always craving more.

Overlord is here as well, those 5 hardcover volumes standing proud and tall. Volume 6 should arrive sometime next week, and you can be sure i’ll devour it ASAP. After that, we’ve got a couple volumes of Goblin Slayer, another great LN but less well-known than others. Danmachi and Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody also make an appearance, along with the very depressingly lonely single volume of Spice and Wolf, as I don’t have the cash at the moment for the other 17 volumes.

The second shelf is my NISIOISIN shelf. Kizumonogatari, Bakemonogatari, Nekomonogatari, Nisemonogatari, it’s all here, or at least, as much as I could get my hands on. NISIOISIN is definitely my favorite LN author, his works are just so exceptional in both writing quality and narrative genius, they never fail to please. And if you’ve never heard of his Kubikiri Cycle, I highly recommend it. It’s a locked-room mystery that delivers a powerful and thrilling story within the confines of its pages, giving me one of the best detective stories i’ve ever experienced in my life.

Stay tuned for next week, when I get to show off my small but growing Manga collection! If you’ve got some recommendations of Light Novels I need to check out, please don’t hesitate to let me know, and thanks for reading!

That’s a great collection you have!
I really want to sort of just go and buy Overlord and Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash but I’ve been kind of lazy about it since I don’t want to increase my reading list 😂😭

I’ll definitely have to add them to my wishlist and then gift myself once I finish my current list of books and manga whenever that will be lol :’)

  2. Currently, the only LN in my possession is Kagerou Daze vol. 1, but I’ve read some other LNs through my local library.

I’m currently working on something involving LN-adapted anime which’ll be going up in a week or two (the shows I’m using for it are a secret though!), so please look forward to that.

      1. Some of the Haruhi Suzumiya novels (6 of them, although not entirely in order), KonoSuba volumes 1 – 3 and Re:Zero volumes 1 – 3. Apparently Death Note’s Another Note and the Vampire Hunter D books count as well, so I’ve read the former and the first 15 or so volumes of the latter.
