Goblin Slayer – Episode 7

Wow. Just… wow. Even having read the Light Novel did not prepare me for how freaking intense this episode was. I mean, seriously, seriously intense, and possibly the best episode of the show yet. Goblin Slayer and company are again delving deeper into the bowels of the ruins beneath the water city, in the name of Goblin Slaying. However, before they go, Sword Maiden has some things to tell to our Priestess…

Sword Maiden is considered a hero, one of the people who defeated and sealed the Demon Lord in the past. However, she bears some interesting scars… even the greatest can fall prey to Goblins, if they’re underestimated. She warns Priestess that she walks a dangerous road, and that Goblin Slayer might one day be taken away from her… words that seem quite prophetic, not long afterwards.

Never change, buddy. Never change.

Discovering an ancient tomb beneath the city, our heroes are quickly trapped in, exposed to poison gas, and  surrounded. It’s here that not only do we get to see another goblin subspecies, but we also see the party’s first real failure, nearly ending in disaster.

This episode was the most high-tension episode yet. Stakes have never been higher, and honestly, even knowing the outcome, I was kept on the edge of my seat the entire time. The brutality, on both sides of the spectrum, really brought out the best of what this show does right… and can I just say, while the show has always looked amazing, this episode just took that right into Plus Ultra territory.

The cinematics in this episode were just epic

Overall, this episode was just amazing. While giving us some decent character development for Priestess through her interactions with Sword Maiden, as well as during the battle, we got one of the best action scenes in recent memory, and honestly… just a lot of things done very right.

So, overall, I very much enjoyed this episode. I think Goblin Slayer has struggled a lot to capture the magic of the original Light Novels, but this episode sure did get really close. I can only hope the future episodes stick to this kind of standard. Anyways, thank you all so much for reading. I hope everyone is enjoying this season of anime, there are some real gems to be found. Let me know what you thought of this week’s Goblin Slayer down in the comments, and i’ll see you all in the next post!
