Seven Senses of the Re’Union – First Impressions

Hey everyone! Are you ready for another successor to Sword Art Online fame? Children getting trapped in a video game that potentially kills them? Bland, uninteresting self-insert protagonist with the most generic character design ever made? Well, you’re in luck, because Seven Senses of the Re’Union has all these things, and more!

If you couldn’t already tell, I was… rather unimpressed by my first look at this show. While it does seem like it’d have some redeeming qualities at a glance, they were more than outweighed by the many faults this show displays through just the first episode alone.

Stop… raising… death… flags…

The OP and ED are both pretty good. The general sound design, however, is pretty bad, with very generic stock sound effects for pretty much everything, and a rather disappointing backing score. The visuals don’t help either, as the show looks average at best during normal moments, and completely falls apart when any sort of action tries to take place on-screen. The action scenes in this show are really either blurry, sloppy messes of animation, or lazy, choppy cut-and-paste scenes for ‘dramatic effect’.

The characters aren’t a help, either. We’ve got the adorable silver-hair, the jealous redhead, glasses boy, the delinquent, the shy girl in megane, and of course, the blandest of the bland main characters, who seems to be a cut-and-paste character design from, I dunno… EVERY OTHER SHOW WITH A GENERIC MC. I mean, when looking at the main character makes you confused what show out of 20 you’re actually watching… it’s a problem.

Words actually escape me…

The story delivery doesn’t make up for any of these issues, either. With plot points that seem both cliche and contrived all over the place, the whole thing just reeks of generic… averageness. And don’t even get me started on how ham-fistedly awful the ‘big reveal’ of the main story hook was. I’m triggered.

Anyways, that’s probably enough bashing on a show for one day… Anyone else had the misfortune of giving this show a try? If you have (and i’m terribly sorry you did), please let me know what you thought of it! Thank you all so much for reading, and i’ll see you in the next post!
