Thank you to Aria from the Animanga Spellbook for the nomination! Hopefully my list isn’t too disappointing!
Rules
- Link back to the original post on Anime QandA so they can check out everyone’s picks!
- Use the ‘Build A Harem’ logo somewhere in the post.
- Make sure to mention the person who nominated you too!
- Pick 5 anime characters (any show & any gender) that would be in your ideal harem if you were the main character of a harem anime, explain a little bit as to why they are your picks (if you want).
- Make sure each character you pick falls into some of the following harem character types: Childhood friend, tom boy/girl, genki girl/boy, loli/shota, trap, tsundere, yandere, kuudere, dandere, etc. (If there’s a character you’ve picked that doesn’t specifically fall into one of these types or falls into multiple types that’s fine too!)
- Nominate 5 people to participate in this tag!
Honestly… this list was a lot harder to put together than I thought it would be. There’s a lot going on, and I had to make some really tough choices… But i’m pretty happy with how it came out. So… let’s get into the list, as I create my own dream Harem, shall we?
Tsundere
Every good harem needs a Tsundere in the mix. Or… is it more correct to say that the best harems have a good Tsundere somewhere? Sawamura Spencer Eriri, Taiga, Misaka Mikoto… all were some pretty darn good picks, but… my heart truly belongs to one single, bashful Tsundere girl… and that’s Rin Tohsaka, from Fate/Stay Night.

Rin is, in my own, humble opinion, an example of the PERFECT tsundere character. She has all the Tsundere traits, i.e. bashfulness, unwillingness to admit she likes the love interest, and a bit of a mean streak… but she’s so much more than that. She’s a well-written, well-rounded character, who is not only strong on her own right, but is actually the main pillar of support for the main character in her show. She’s a strong, independent magus, and ain’t nobody telling her what to do!
Kuudere
Man, aren’t Kuudere types just adorable? Their inexpressive faces and bumbling social interactions are a sight to behold. Yet, may times, they end up seeming somewhat flat and lifeless, like the character trope was taken a bit too far without really understanding what makes it so good in the first place. That’s why I’ve always had a crush on Horizon, from Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere.

Horizon is… an android. The soul of a young girl stuffed into an android’s body, her emotions stolen from her and used to fuel weapons of mass destruction. So, not only is she somewhat robotic, but the soul inside her android shell has lost touch with all emotions. Her hunt to collect all the weapons, restore her emotions, and prevent the onset of the apocalypse pushes much of the story forward… and her adorable social stumbling along the way is utterly endearing in the best of ways.
Yandere
Many people like to pass around the phrase “Don’t stick your dick in crazy.” This is a wise phrase, and should be remembered, quoted, and worshiped… and completely ignored, at times. This is one of those times. While Yandere can be a bit terrifying at times, (Yuno Gasai, etc.), it can also be an endearing trait when used correctly. The third addition to my Harem is Hitagi Senjougahara, from Monogatari.

Senjougahara is one of the most well-written characters i’ve ever seen in Anime. She carries so much of the plot of the Monogatari series on her back, and her interactions with Ararararagi never fail to disappoint. Her actions are so genuine, her protectiveness is as endearing as it is terrifying… and let’s face it. She’s pretty dang good looking, too.
Anthropomorph
What good Harem would be complete without an adorable, animal-haired girl? Well don’t worry, I have one in mind. Loyal, protective, intelligent, and cheerful… Not to mention beautiful. I’m talking, of course, about Holo, from Spice and Wolf.

Holo is a character that comes around once in a while. A woman who stands on more than equal footing with the male lead, though sharing different points of expertise. Her cheerful attitude is sure to always brighten your day, and her quick wit and sharp tongue mean you’ll never be without conversation. She’s exceptionally skilled at getting out of tough situations… and is a freaking Wolf God. What more could you want?
Childhood Friend
One of the most common, yet effective tropes found in Harem anime is the Childhood Friend character. Knowing the main character from birth, they usually have an extensive knowledge of how you tick, what you enjoy, and generally take last place in the Love race. Nevertheless, i’m adding one to my Harem, and her name is Winry Rockbell.

Winry is an absolute joy of a character in Full Metal Alchemist. Every time she’s on screen, she lights up the room, and her emotional connection to everyone, not to mention her ability to make friends, is a sight to behold. If there’s ever been a prime example of an amazing, beautiful, intelligent, and loyal Childhood Friend in a show, Winry Rockbell fits that mold to a T.
And that’s it! I’m pretty proud of the Harem i’ve managed to put together for myself, and I think it would actually be pretty fun to have… if maybe sort of terrifying at times. Hopefully I didn’t disappoint. Thanks again to Aria for the nomination, and to Anime QandA for creating this fun tag!
And now… it’s Nomination time!! Sorry to anyone who’s already been nominated, i’m doing my best.

You made my eyes light up just seeing a Holo mention ❤
Also don't tell Holo this – I think she might just eat up everyone else in the harem o.o

I've heard so many good things about Senjougahara and yet I've not watched the Monogatari series yet ('cause its so long lolz).

I realized I haven't seen Edgy's blog yet although he's on discord too, thanks for the link!

If you’re doing Monogatari, take it one at a time rather than trying to binge the whole series. Holo is amazing and I love her, and yeah… she might actually do that…

Okay, I’ll take your advice on that!

psst– give her apples. She’d do anything for apples.

Holy Beef (Cow)! That said, a spin-off “Build A Gluten” sounds like a nice idea where you put together anime gluttons in an imaginary buffet.
