This is a bit of an unorthodox post from me, coming out on what has been a very busy and chaotic week. However, just a few days ago, Nintendo released a new trailer on their Youtube Channel which has made me super, super excited for game releases this year. If you haven’t seen it yet, definitely check out the trailer:
As you are all probablly aware, i’m a HUGE fan of the Pokemon franchise. It was my childhood, it’s stuck with me my whole life, and I absolutely adore everything about Pokemon. So when I saw this trailer detailing a true-to-form Pokemon game coming right to a home console, how could I not be hyped???
Let’s break down a few things we know about the game, first and foremost. It looks like it’ll be set in the Kanto region, bringing back the original feel of Red, Blue, and Yellow. We also know that it’s set to connect up to Pokemon Go in some way. While I’ve actually not played Pokemon Go at all, this reveal makes me curious and interested in picking it up before the game releases.
I don’t think these games will actually be mainline Pokemon games, as, while having elements like turn-based battles, Pokemon catching, Pokemon centers and more, the games aren’t named like mainline Pokemon games, and they seem to play a little differently as well.
One of my main concerns about the game is the catching mechanic that’s been shown. Nintendo is notorious for trying to shoehorn in motion controls where they are not needed, and I feel this might be the same situation. I’ve always appreciated the portability of Pokemon, and the Switch has been great for that so far. But if i’m in a car, on a bus, etc, I don’t see myself whipping my Joy-Con all over the place to try and catch Pokemon. I hope the motion controls are optional, maybe toggleable or just have an alternate method to them.
Let’s talk about the visuals, then. The 3D models look absolutely amazing. I’m a fan of what I’ve seen so far, and I feel the style fits the franchise a bit more than what we got from Sun and Moon’s 3D models. The battle system and the multiplayer aspect also look great, i’m excited to see how they work out in the long run.
Honestly, though I have some trepidation about some things, I’m looking forward to this game. I’ve learned to trust Nintendo over the years, because they really do know how to make good games, and I have high hopes for this new addition to Pokemon. If I had to make a plea, it would be “please make motion controls optional, please make good remixes of the classic tracks, and please blow my mind with this game.”
To all my fellow Pokemon fans out there, what do you guys think of the games as shown in this release trailer? Are you excited for the games to come out? are you a fan of the changes and additions shown? Which version do you think you’ll get, if you could get one? Let me know down in the comments, and thank you all so much for reading!!
I think it looks cool! My wife and I play Pokemon Go and we’re seriously considering getting a Switch because of this 🙂 Admitedly I still haven’t finished Sun on the 3DS but this has co-op adventuring on one console, which is a HUGE selling point for us 🙂

I think if they pull it off, the co-op adventuring is going to be awesome as well!
