Gamers! Final Thoughts

Every week this summer, Gamers! was one of the shows I most looked forward to. I’m quite sad that it’s over, and I am hopeful of a second season being released. But why did I enjoy the show so much? The plot was painfully average and shallow, the characters didn’t have a whole lot of depth, and the whole thing was relatively juvenile. But I still enjoyed the heck out of it. Why?

To put it simply, Gamers! is a fun show. With a cast of around-the-board nutjob characters whose interactions and insecurities constantly caused themselves bigger and bigger problems, the show never failed to get a laugh from me every week. Facepalms galore as the characters wound themselves down into a pit of self-inflicted misery, and then hope comes back as they seemingly fix everything… only to undo all that again right away. The show displays great comedic awareness and timing, using every scenario to it’s greatest effect, creating one of the best comedy series i’ve seen in years.

Visually, the show is above-average, very easy on the eyes. The soundtrack, while fitting, is forgettable, but the chiptune OP was amazing. The characters, while themselves lacking depth, had some great interactions through the course of the series, and their shenanigans never ceased to entertain. Fanservice is definitely present, but I didn’t find any of it to be in poor taste.

To conclude, Gamers! is a great series to watch if you’re starved for some laughs. Turn of your brain and just let it happen; embrace the stupidity and you’ll have a fantastic time. If you’re looking for a tearjerker, you probably want a different show, though Gamers! does actually have a few touching moments. All-in-all, it’s not an amazing show, but it was definitely worth my time to watch it, and managed to stay on my rapidly dwindling roster to the very end.
