Isekai Shokudou Episode 2

Once again, Isekai Shokudou surprised me with stunning visuals and animation, a great soundtrack, and some genuinely interesting characters. I have been seeing a lot of people comparing this show to Shokugeki no Soma, yet I must disagree. It focuses far more on the stories of the people who come into the restaurant than on the actual food. While the first episode focused more on the restaurant itself, with a few glimpses of some of the regulars, this episode followed almost entirely two visitors to the restaurant.

The first visitor is a young treasure hunter girl whose father had been a regular at Nekoya before he died. Following clues written in her father’s journal, she manages to find his secret door leading into the restaurant. The second is a young soldier, who stumbled upon the restaurant in a time of need, and was given the food he needed to reach his country’s capital and warn them of an incoming army of monsters.

This really is a great show to watch, very relaxing and laid-back, yet interesting enough to hold my attention from start to finish. The pacing is great, the art, music, and animation is gorgeous, and i’m very excited to see where all these intertwining stories will connect.
